Why posture is important in stationary meditation ?
While practicing meditation, a comfortable seat and a good posture is required. To help us do this, make sure if you are sitting on a cushion that the back of the cushion is slightly higher than the front. The posture of Buddha Vairochana i.e. sitting in the posture of cross-legged is good but sometimes people get uncomfortable in this position while trying for long. The best option is to stick with it or be as close to this position as possible.
Features of Stationary meditation:-
1.Thoughts and feelings of desirous attachment should be minimized. The vajra posture particularly helps in that.
2. It is good to place the right hand in the left hand with palm upwards and the tips of thumbs slightly raised. Try to develop good concentration. The right hand symbolizes method and the left hand symbolizes wisdom – the two together symbolize the union of method and wisdom.
3. Sit up straight without getting the back tense and gently close your
eyes. Now begin to become aware of all the things that are going on in your mind, all the things you may be continually rethinking and feeling. As you become familiar to your inner reality begin to release negative feelings out of your mind. This process helps us to develop and maintain a clear mind, and it allows the subtle energy winds to flow freely.
4.The tongue should touch against the back of the upper teeth. The motive is to prevent excessive salivation and also preventing the mouth to get dried up.
5. The head is tipped a little forward with the chin slightly tucked in so that the eyes are cast down. This helps prevent mental excitement.
6. Breathe through your nose if you can. On each exhale remind yourself that you have “that item” written down and that you can stop experiencing it. Now make your breaths a little longer and slower. Now at this stage, you probably will not realize your progress but it is happening. The shoulders have to be level and the elbows are to be held slightly away from the sides. This will help the air to circulate properly.
Other meditation tips:-
While breathing out, try to imagine all he disturbing thoughts and negative thinkings and feelings and distractions moving out of your body and soul. And as you breathe in think like the holy blessings of GOD are are entering you and your life. Visualize a white light that is entering the body and getting absorbed in the heart. This visualization has to be strong. Try to do it repeatedly until the mind becomes ultimate peaceful and calm.
The effect of this inhale-exhale phenomenon is very strong. In fact it directly affects your unconscious mind which starts believing that your CREATOR is giving you all good divine blessings and inspirations. As, the negative thoughts and feelings disappear and the positive energy flows in the body , you’ll experience more positive things happening in your practical life. This is because of the ‘law of attraction’ phenomenon.
