The meditation practice and the posture

Finding a place in the living quartrs that can be designated as the meditation spot is very important. It is the place where you are trying to communicate with your inner self , so it is best if it is away from other family members, friends or a place where one can be truly be by himself. The corner should be furthest away from the bed if it is in the bedroom. You want that because you don’t want your brain to get confused with the sleep and the meditation process. The spot has to be clean, with minimum number of items around. All one should have is the seating choice (cushion, mats etc.), notebook, glass of water and you. With your basic meditation items gathered and your space prepared, you are almost ready to begin.
It is advised to choose a time of practice. Early mornings are generally good for that. If you are not a morning person, choose late evenings. For a good meditation, you will want to be alert and attentive, not drowsy or exhausted. If you choose the late evening, try to have some time in between your meditation time and your sleep time. One should not eat something before meditation or if eating is required, then do something light.
Place both feet flat on the floor. The first idea is to pick up pen, notbook and write all thoughts one may be having that time. Record your feelings, thoughts and emotions. Anything you do not want to forget should also be written.
Place your hands on your legs with the left hand on the left leg and the right hand on the right leg. Your palms can be up or down, find what position is more comfortable for you. Sit up straight and gently close your eyes. Now begin to become aware of all the things that are going on in your mind, all the things you may be continually rethinking and feeling. Continue to get familiar with you thoughts and start breathing process. Make note when you begin having control of those items you wrote earlier and stop experiencing them in your thoughts. For some people this will happen quickly and for some it will take a lot of practice.
